As long as you have the right policy with the right company, there are many instances where car insurance may cover car repair costs. Here is a quick list of when auto insurance may help.

Damage From an Accident

Your car insurance plan should be able to cover the repairs if your car is damaged in a collision with another vehicle or an object on the road, such as a tree, rock, or pothole. Additionally, collision coverage may also be against vandalism.

In Case of Non-Accident Repairs or Natural Damages

If your car sustains damage not related to common road accidents, comprehensive insurance coverage may cover the repairs. Usually, comprehensive insurance protects against damages caused by calamities like theft, fire, natural disasters, vandalism, animal damage, or falling objects.

Therefore, if your car collided with an animal or a tree fell onto the hood, comprehensive coverage will help pay for mechanical repairs and bodywork due to the incident. Just keep in mind that there will be coverage limits, and deductibles may apply.

Breakdowns Arising From Wear and Tear

Car insurance does not cover problems related to wear and tear. This is because wear and tear are not considered a risk but rather a normal event all machines must go through. Covering for these damages will be against auto policy’s regulation since its purpose is to indemnify car owners against unpredictable risks.

Intentional Damage

Any insurance policies do not take care of intentional damages for two reasons:

  • Causing international damage with the aim of receiving a new car is a form of fraud. Legally, this is an offense.
  • Insurance only pays for unintentional mishaps.

Final Thoughts

While insurance may seem like an unnecessary investment, it can be a lifesaver. It helps lessen the financial burden if your car is involved in an accident. However, note that an auto policy will not cover intentional damages and those related to wear and tear. These are avoidable incidents.
